There are two methods of transfer printing. The first, for non-intricate block colour designs, uses a small blade to cut a design into a textile transfer film, otherwise known as vinyl. Once cut the unneeded bits of vinyl are weeded out, leaving only the final design on the transfer backing. This is then applied to the garment using a heat press.
The second method, which can also be used for intricate or shaded designs, involves the entire design being printed onto a transfer backing, before being heat applied to the garment.
Vinyl transfer printing is most suitable for non-intricate block colour designs, i.e., designs which do not have detailing under 1mm and do not have any gradients or shading in the design. We may be able to remove shading or intricate detail from your design at your request but if you require it to be unedited we will use heat seal transfers instead.
Intricate and shaded designs can be produced using heatseal transfers, but due to the added labour involved screen printing may be a more cost effective alternative if the quantity is under 100.
Vinly transfer printing is generally suitable for quantities of 1-100 units. Heatseal transfers are suitable for larger quantities (100-500) but since both are labour intensive processes it is often faster and more cost effective to use screen printing for orders exceeding 100 units, providing your design and garments are suitable.
Cost for transfer printed clothing is dependent upon design and quantity. You can get a live total by selecting a product and customising it online.
